Kenny Priest
by Kenny Priest, SEPTEMBER 6, 2024

It’s a good time to be a saltwater angler right now, especially if Eureka is your home port. Options on the table right now are Pacific halibut, rockfish, and tuna. And they’re all biting! It’s been a pretty sluggish season for halibut, but the bite really started to pick up steam in August. Recently, the best action has been straight...

Eagle Lake Report
by Valerie Aubrey, AUGUST 30, 2024
Eagle Lake

I did a water column temp test Thursday. There's 8F difference from surface temp to 50ft. At most I had 0.9F difference between 10-15ft. Started out at 69.2F at the surface (noon) and ended at 61.2F at 50ft. The 3-4F thermocline we barely kept this summer, is washed out. What does that mean? It means we are beginning to mix...

It’s fairly rare to string to together that many calm ocean days with the warm water sitting just off the beach. Some days you didn’t need to travel more than 15 miles...

Another Big Summer Catfish!
by Collins Lake Staff, AUGUST 20, 2024
Collins Lake

Just a few days ago the Donovan Family of Brownsville caught this chunky 11lb catfish using raw porkchop down by the dam. While the strong summer heat has waned the water surface temperature is still fairly high at 78.5°F and the thermocline is still at about 20ft deep. Weekdays have been very quiet since about August 12th- if you don’t like...
