I did a water column temp test Thursday. There's 8F difference from surface temp to 50ft. At most I had 0.9F difference between 10-15ft. Started out at 69.2F at the surface (noon) and ended at 61.2F at 50ft. The 3-4F thermocline we barely kept this summer, is washed out. What does that mean? It means we are beginning to mix a bit. This will move fish up & down the water column. Historically, this subtle change gets the attention of the fish. Some will stage out in the middle of the lake in anticipation of heading north to Pelican Pt (which with low water, has rock piles close to the surface & ya gotta learn it to weave it without damaging your boat!) It's been weedy out in the middle but we've had 4 nice ones come out of there this week. Some algae but mostly weeds. So check lines often. Depth, for me has been around 14-20ft. Thomas Buoyant gold & red/copper, gold/red rainbow trout. For me, smaller size over larger right now. Watermelon grubs & still some stick bait (flicker shad, rapala action, location counts) & night crawlers are still picking up a few around the bait balls. The fish in the middle are still filter feeding on the daphnia cloud. Keep your lines clean. It's very normal to start to see more surface & subsurface weeds this time of year. Trout aren't vegan. This shaker was 3lb 10oz on the Richter scale. There's still some good fish out there! Come & get em!
