We're just a few days away from the Sacramento River King salmon opener above Red Bluff.  That opens the remaining area of the Sacramento River that we enjoy fishing for King salmon every year. There are salmon in the upper reaches of the Sacramento River currently, but this Sunday's opener will give us a better idea of what the Anderson-Cottonwood section of the Sac River is holding as far as salmon numbers go.  Water temps above Red Bluff are perfect so the bite we will see from existing salmon near the Barge Hole in Anderson.  We've had at least one guide on the river every day since the salmon opener on July 16th and they are hooking between one and four salmon a day.  Its early in the season now so those numbers aren't bad at all in my mind.  If the Barge Hole Kings bite good this Sunday, those hooked fish averages should increase every week looking forward.  Captains Justin Thompson and Jeff Brady have been doing a great job of getting their guests on some nice King salmon this past week.  We're all very excited about all the days of salmon fishing we have ahead of us on the Sacramento River this year.

Jeff Goodwin is a full time Northern California fishing guide.  He guides year round for salmon, trout, steelhead, Kokanee, and bass on Northern California rivers and lakes. He fishes many bodies of water in the Redding area, but also guides the Sacramento River and Feather River during certain times of the year. Jeff can also be found on the California coast chasing ocean fresh King salmon and steelhead each year.
