Shasta Lake is heating up and so is the salmon, trout, and bass bite.  Big browns are still at the forefront of my efforts, but we're catching plenty of other species trolling on Shasta.  The bass bite has been ridiculous and keeping them off the spoons we're trolling is impossible.  We had a great day for Shasta Lake Kokanee salmon in lite of the fact we weren't even trying to catch them.  We landed six Kokanee yesterday and lost several more fishing the McCloud arm.  The brown bite has been rough some days, but we are still landing a 1-4 every day.  We've Caught a few King salmon on the Sac Arm recently, but not too many anywhere else.  Its still early for Kings on Shasta though. Rainbows are feeding on plankton right now and the bite has been slow as usual, but we did get into 3 big rainbows yesterday.  We'll hunt browns through April, but we start to target rainbows in May.  We're already seeing some post spawn rainbows back in the lake so those rainbow numbers will grow every week into summer.  Most of the rainbows are being caught in the 15-20' range and the Kokanee are as well.  The browns are sitting 30-40' feet deep, but will come up to eat well presented spoons and stick baits.  Try trolling around 2.5 mph, thats been working for me all spring.  I've talked to lots of fishermen this year who have struggled and they all have one thing in common.  They are trolling too slow in my opinion (1.5-1.7) mph.  I'm not saying you can't catch trout at less than 2.0 mph, but I don't believe you'll catch very many right now.   The lake is heating up with all this warm weather so stay flexible.  Rapidly changing water conditions can really make Shasta a tough place to wet a line this time of the year.  Good luck!
