The Sacramento River in Redding Ca. is as good as it gets.  Lots of wild steelhead/trout are sitting on the salmon redds and will likely do so well into spring.  The presence of salmon means the trout are feeding on loose eggs so hard or soft 8-10 mm beads presented by drifting or bobber dogging is a top choice for us right now.  With flows at 3,250 cfs, it can be tough to find access for bigger boats so we're recommending the use of drift boats or fishing from shore.  Its a semi rare opportunity to wade along the shorelines now to fish for steelhead/trout in downtown Redding, but its possible this year due to the low flows.  Pretty much anyone has good access to the Sacramento River in Redding right now.

Jeff Goodwin is a full time Northern California fishing guide.  He guides year round for salmon, trout, steelhead, Kokanee, and bass on Northern California rivers and lakes. He fishes many bodies of water in the Redding area, but also guides the Sacramento River and Feather River during certain times of the year. Jeff can also be found on the California coast chasing ocean fresh King salmon and steelhead each year.
