Today we moved over to Shasta Lake to go after some rainbow and brown trout.  The morning started out a little on the slow side, but winter trout fishing is like that most days.  The Lake temps are in the low 50's now so most days you need not be on the water real early.  We did hook into a large brown trout trolling a Brad's Kokanee Cut Plug off lead core line, but it came unbuttoned at the transom.  It was a big brown so it was a tough loss.  We managed to get into some stocker size trout, but the bigger 17" to 19" rainbows and browns turned on around noon.  It was a beautiful day on the lake and todays great clients had a good time, as did I.  Spending more days on the water is whats needed now to pattern these bigger trout and start getting consistent bites.  The Optimizer Jr spoons are killing it so if you don't currently have a good supply, I would suggest getting over to Phils Propeller to get some.  I've found success with several colors but my favorite color may look like a rainbow tiger, hint, hint....  Merry Xmas to all and to all a good night!
