Its the 4th of July weekend on Shasta Lake and boy is it busy! Early morning is ok for fishing, but by early afternoon its a mad house unless your on the lake for things other than fishing. Fortunately we have the weekend off and wont have to contend with the crowds this weekend. The fishing was lackluster at best today and I talked to several boats that had the same reports. Some descent fish were caught, but nothing out of the low end of ordinary. I'm hoping its the calm before the storm and we see a great bite emerge soon. The bait hasnt really shown in big numbers yet and all the fish we're catching have empty stomach's. I've seen it like this before, but not normally in July. I'll give it until early next week and we should see a big improvement. The exception has been the salmon bite, and its been great early in the morning. The bite doesnt last long though so get at em early. Once the King bite slows, go after some rainbows for the remainder of the day. We've been seeing a descent bite around noon the past several days. Be safe and have a great 4th of July weekend on Shasta Lake!
