Today was a really nice day on the Sacramento River.  The frosty morning air and ice on the truck windshield set me back a few minutes this morning, but its a sign that winter is finally near.  We fished the Sacramento River in Redding and found a really good morning bite.  A fish or two on every pass until 9:00 am and a decision to move left me scratching my head.  Side drifting egg patterns was a slam dunk until the move and then after a late morning lull, we finally found the plug bite I set out for a few hours earlier.  The day ended the same way it started, and that was one of todays clients catching a beautiful Sacramento River rainbow trout.  The river is experiencing some suspended grass debris and its making plug fishing very difficult.  Sticking to the egg patterns will likely be the best option looking forward, but we have spawning salmon in the river still so thats not a bad game plan anyway.  The dead egg pattern was our most productive and peach colors came in a close second.  We'll be running steelhead/trout fishing trips into spring on the Sacramento River in Redding so stay tuned for more fishing reports and trip opportunities in the coming weeks and months ahead.  Thank you!
