The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s outdoor education program heads to Molalla this weekend for another fun-filled day of trout fishing.
The action will take place at Shorty’s Pond on Saturday, April 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
ODFW staff and volunteer will be on site to provide rods, reels, tackle, bait, and instruction to anyone who wants to come join in the fun. Participants are welcome to bring their own gear, if they want, or borrow gear that will be available on site at no charge.
“Shorty’s is always a fun place to have a fishing event,” said Jeff Fulop, youth fishing event coordinator for ODFW’s North Willamette Watershed District.
Shorty’s Pond is a 4-acre pond located within Ivor Davies Nature Park in in Molalla, across from Heckard Football Stadium. It can be accessed by the Fifth St. Trailhead, and there is plenty of fishing access around the perimeter of the pond.
The fishing is free for kids 11 years of age and younger. A youth license is required for anglers 12-17 years of age and can be purchased for $10 on-line at ODFW’s website (www.dfw.state.or.us), or at any ODFW field office or retail license agent. Adults are also welcome to fish but must have a valid fishing license in possession. Licenses will not be sold on site the day of the event so individuals planning to attend should purchase their license ahead of time.
