Trout bite slowly improving every day!

Today we fished Shasta Lake for rainbows and brown trout. No takers in the brown category, but its been trending that way as we inch closer and closer to the summer season on Shasta Lake. We did see some trout pushing Shad on the lake surface on the main body today, so thats a great sign that we'll be hitting doubles like we did today most of the days we fish moving forward. No big bait balls were visible for us today over deep water so that means the Shad will be close to the shore where the water is in the low 70's. We did hit some open water fish today, but our days started with 3 rainbows tight to the bank. We got bites at 25'-35' today no matter where we were on the lake. The side planers are out of the boat so its a downrigger show now and I'm about to break out the dodgers to call in more fish to my baits. I rarely use dodgers in the winter/fall months, but summertime is dodger time in my boat! Good luck!
